In this picture, igneous rock formations guide your eye from the waves lapping over them upward to the lighthouse. This is one of my favorite scenes in the beautiful state of Maine. These rocks have been polished by lapping waves and stormy seas. Time worn but resilient, these rocks reveal the reason for the light station's placement here to warn mariners of impending danger. I've always been impressed by the spacious feeling one gets here--the big water, big sky, big rocks. It marks the beginning of the continent but it also marks the line between safety and danger.
