One of the largest influences in my move to North Carolina was the infinite photographic opportunities from the mountains to the sea and in between. When I saw this scene near Maxton, I knew it would become a thing of the past with big farm machinery becoming more and more prominent. I tried picking cotton for about twenty minutes and found quickly that it was not for me. The heat and relentless sun turned me into liquid. Our economy was very dependent on these farm products that were hand planted and handpicked as they had been for centuries.
